Sivasspor – Fenerbahce Match Preview, Turkish Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg

April 21, 2009 by fenerbahce

Fenerbahce football team will face Sivasspor on the second leg of the Turkish Cup semi-final. Fenerbahce won the first leg 3-1 and not too far away from advancing to the final but the lack of form and important missing players put a quite big question mark in minds.

Missing Players

Diego Lugano, Semih Senturk and Volkan Demirel (GK) will be out for the game due to suspension while Alex, Gokhan Gonul and Emre Belozoglu will be out due to injury problems. Edu Dracena will be out too as he had a knee surgery a week ago. All these players are regular and important starting line-up players and these missings will definately effect the team performance in a negative way.

Securing a Place in European Cups

As the league title race is nearly over for Fenerbahce the only way to secure a European Cup place is winning or at least playing the final in the Turkish Cup. From this point of view players will have extra motivation for this game which they lack in the league games.

Opponent’s Side

Sivasspor are the league leaders with an impressive overall performance this year and their main target is the league without a doubt. They are very close to a shocker in the Turkish football history if they achieve that goal. Having league title in their minds might effect Sivasspor’s Turkish Cup desire but since they are in the semis they will look into the possibility to advance to the final.

This game is tricky and if Fenerbahce keep the unmotivated style of play in the recent league games, Sivasspor are more than capable of overcoming the 3-1 disadvantage. The key is the motivation levels here and Fenerbahce are the side that have to advance inorder to secure the place in European Cups next season.

Expected Starting Line-Up for Fenerbahce: Volkan Babacan, Roberto Carlos, Onder Turaci, Yasin Cakmak, Ali Bilgin, Selcuk Sahin, Josico, Gokhan Emreciksin, Vederson, Deivid, Daniel Guiza
